The company is independently owned and run by individuals with vast experiences in international financial markets, supported by a highly competent middle-back office team.
We focus on equity research and portfolio investments into science and engineering companies, mainly in Japan, Korea and Taiwan.
AE Research Management Sdn Bhd holds a Capital Markets Services Licence (CMSL) for boutique portfolio management, issued by the Securities Commission of Malaysia.
Since commencement of business, the company has provided research and investment-related services to a foreign-registered mutual fund that seeks to invest in deep science and engineering companies predominantly in Japan.
We also provide segregated portfolio account management to sophisticated investors.
Founding persons of the company have more than 20 years of investment research, fund management and risk management experiences.
We execute a highly structured and robust stock selection process, incorporating institutional best practices – consistent, fully documented, open to challenge, comprehensive follow-ups.
Portfolio risk & volatility is controlled by investing across diverse fields of engineering and in uncorrelated supply chains, together with clearly-defined position exit criteria.

CEO & Head of Investments
Mr Quah is a founding shareholder of AE Research Management. He is currently the Chief Executive Officer and lead portfolio manager.
Before AE Research Management, Mr. Quah has accumulated over 15 years of fund management experiences at New Harbour Capital Partners (in Singapore) and INVESCO Asia (in Hong Kong and Singapore). His specialization included managing pan-Asia funds with investment in science and technology sectors in Japan, Korea and Taiwan, and also managing institutional segregated mandates benchmarked to MSCI Emerging Market Asia/Asia ex-Japan.
Prior to joining the fund management industry in 1999, Mr. Quah was the Regional Equity Strategist at Merrill Lynch Asia Pacific and Senior Economist with the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
Mr. Quah graduated in Electrical Engineering from the National University of Singapore in 1989, and holds the CFA charter from the CFA Institute (USA).
Director (non-executive), oversight responsibility on Risk
Dr. Wong Yit Fan is also a founding shareholder of AE Research Management. As the non-executive Director, he holds strategic oversight responsibilities over the risk and compliance framework at the company.
Dr. Wong has over 25 years’ experience in the financial services industry. He had previously served as Chief Investment Officer for a family fund in Abu Dhabi, Head of Country Risk Management of DBS Bank Ltd and subsequently led the start-up operations of DBS Vietnam, Chief Economist for SE Asia and Indochina at Standard Chartered Bank, as well as an Assistant Director at the Monetary Authority of Singapore. In the area of risk management, he served on the Board of a microfinance entity for rural women in East Timor for seven years.
Dr. Wong was also the first Chief Rep for Jardine Matheson in Myanmar and co-founded a startup incubator/early VC fund in Myanmar. He currently sits on various Boards in Myanmar, Singapore and Malaysia. He also holds the role of the Chairman of the Board of Conservation International (CI) for the Asia Pacific, which is one of the largest NGOs in the world for environmental protection.
Dr. Wong obtained his MBA and Ph.D in Economics from the University of Hawaii under an East West Center scholarship, and graduated with B.A Economics (Distinction) and B.Sc in Industrial Engineering (Honors) from the University of Washington.
Finance & Operations
Ms Samantha Tan is the Finance Manager of AE Research Management. As a Finance Manager, she is responsible for the financial health of the Company.
She has over 15 years of experience in financial and accounting in various industries. From her past experience in financial and accounting sector, other than producing financial reports and monitoring a company’s finances, she was also involved in developing strategies and planning for long-term financial goals.
Ms Samantha Tan holds a B.As (Hons) In Accounting from the University of Hertfordshire.
Person Responsible for Compliance
Ms. Yeoh is the Person Responsible for Compliance (registered with the Securities Commission of Malaysia) for AE Research Management Sdn Bhd. In addition to her role to ensure due compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, guidelines and specifications, she assists Dr. Wong in overseeing the risk framework of the company. Ms. Yeoh is also an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya practising under her own law firm, Messrs Stefanie Chambers, specialising in Compliance & Governance and Dispute Resolution.
Prior to joining AE Research Management, Ms. Yeoh was the registered legal & compliance officer of Affin Hwang Investment Bank Berhad. She was part of the legal & compliance team that had overseen the acquisition and subsequent merger of the businesses of HwangDBS Investment Bank Berhad and Affin Investment Bank Berhad.
Ms. Yeoh graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) from the University of London and holds a Certificate in Legal Practice from the Legal Profession Qualifying Board of Malaysia.
Consultant (Research)
Porraphon is a Research Consultant with AE Research Management Sdn Bhd. Based overseas, Porraphon assists the investment team with specialized research & analysis of and investor-related communications with precision instrumentation and specialty chemical companies in Japan.
Before his engagement with AE Research, Porraphon was part of the industrial printing R&D sector at Ricoh Company Ltd (Japan) working on the development of Li-ion batteries. He specialized in industrial materials selection, emerging electronic devices market research, and data analysis.
Porraphon holds a M.Eng. in Electrical Engineering and Information Systems from the University of Tokyo, and graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Honors) from Chulalongkorn University.
Research Analyst
Catherine joined the research team in November 2021. She focuses on identifying new drug discovery
trends, and the analysis of related pharmaceutical and invitro-diagnostics companies in Japan and
Korea.
Before AE Research, Catherine was part of an academic research team under The Children’s Hospital at
Westmead (Sydney) studying the mechanisms underlying neurodevelopmental disorders. Her research
involves genomic analysis and protein structural modelling.
Catherine obtained her Bachelor of Advanced Studies (Applied Medical Science Honours) from
University of Sydney, and also holds a Bachelor of Health Sciences in Genetics and a Bachelor of
Mathematical and Computer Sciences from the University of Adelaide.
